Dr Joseph Kamal Muhammad qualified in Dentistry 1986 BDS and Medicine 1994 MB BS from Guys and St Thomas's Hospitals and Medical Schools, University of London. He obtained the Golding Bird Medal and Prize in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Gillespie Prize in Psychological Medicine as an undergraduate. Dental fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) of England, Edinburgh and Ireland were achieved in 1988 and 1989. Fellowships in general surgery were awarded from RCS of England and Edinburgh after competitive examination. Dr Joseph also has FRCS OMFS and the American Board of Facial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery, which he obtained in 2004. In 2009, he was runner up in the best facial reconstructive case category for Middle East & North Africa (MENA) Dental Facial Cosmetics Awards.
After his training in the UK he was appointed consultant in OMFS at Al Jazeira Hospital. He later became Head of OMFS at Mafraq Hospital and Head of the Dental Department at Al Rahba Hospital, whilst continuing to provide an OMFS service.
Dr Joseph's special interests include the management of facial deformity, facial trauma, dental implantology, minor oral surgery, and oral and maxillofacial surgery medicine. He has published papers in peer review journals and reviews manuscripts for several journals. He presents internationally and is an AOCMF faculty member.
Dr Joseph has a passion for his work. He likes to teach and has a strong interest in quality, patient safety and innovation. To this effect, he completed his MHCA from Zayed University (Distinction with Honours) in 2013. Hobbies include textiles, reading and learning Arabic. His favourite football team is Manchester City and his favourite TV fictional character is the detective, lieutenant Columbo.
